Baptism

The Sacrament of Baptism

Baptism is the first Sacrament of Christian initiation.  It is a new beginning – a beginning of Christian life.  Through Baptism we become sons and daughters of God and are embraced into the family of the church and the church community.

Most Catholic families baptised their children soon after birth. However sometimes people are baptised later, or even as adults.

So if you are coming to St Christopher’s to receive the Sacrament of Baptism for your child, or for yourself – welcome!

Godparents

Godparents are examples of faith to the child.  They must be confirmed and practicing Catholics and at least sixteen years old.

There must be at least one Catholic godparent, and a non-Catholic may act as a Christian witness.
